Ictimai TV general director says Eurovision 2012: Venue to be announced in January
The venue to host the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest will be announced in January, according to the general director of Ictimai TV and member of the Steering Group, Mr. Ismayil Omarov.
“We do not have any problems with the choice of the venue and consider different options, but the final decision will be taken by the steering committee”, he said.
It seems likely that one of those options is the Baku Crystal Hall, which is under construction at the moment at the National Flag Square of the Azerbaijani capital. The venue is being constructed by German company Alpine and is expected to accomodate up to 25,000 spectators. You can learn more about it here.
Mr Omarov also referred to the progress of the Eurovision 2012 preparations. The head of the public broadcaster of Azerbaijan said that it is highly appreciated by the European Broadcasting Union: “I think that Baku will host an unforgettable show. European and world community demonstrates a great interest to Azerbaijan and I think that Eurovision 2012 in Baku will see many guests”, Omarov said.
